Numerical Simulation of Severe Damage to a Historical Masonry Building by Soil Settlement

چکیده

Historical masonry structures, which constitute an important part of the historical heritage, exhibit brittle behavior under tensile stresses due to earthquakes or soil movements/settlements. Therefore, they are sensitive deformation. The soil–structure interaction problems play role in damage structures. Different settlements, slips, and deformations foundations causes to, and/or partial collapse load-bearing walls. This study provides a numerical simulation historic building on north coast Turkey, dating from 19th century, suffered severe settlement by excavation activity near building. FE models with without system were created identify following settlement. height domain (bounded as fixed boundary condition) was accepted range 1.5 m 15 m. propagation between numerically obtained existing detailed compared. Numerical Models for the Assessment of Historical Masonry Structures and Materials, Monitored by Acoustic Emission

The paper reviews some recent numerical applications for the interpretation and exploitation of acoustic emission (AE) monitoring results obtained from historical masonry structures and materials. Among possible numerical techniques, the finite element method and the distinct method are considered. The analyzed numerical models cover the entire scale range, from microstructure and meso-structur...

Numerical simulation of liquefaction susceptibility of soil interacting by single pile

Previous case histories have shown that soil liquefaction severely damaged many structures supported on pile foundations during earthquakes. As a result, evaluating the potential for instability is an important consideration for the safe and resistant design of deep foundation against earthquakes. In this study, the liquefaction susceptibility of saturated sand interacting by single concrete pi...

Seismic Mitigation of a Historic Masonry Building

This work presents an analysis of different proposals of rehabilitation of a masonry building, built around the beginning of the XX century for public schools, in the highest seismic risk zone of Argentine; and which was closed down after Mendoza`s Earthquake in 1985. The building has masonry walls of artisanal ceramic bricks and wood-framed roof but it does not have lateral ties. Currently, it...

NSCD∗ method applied to mechanical simulation of masonry in historical buildings using MOMA∗∗

This paper introduces a new approach for the mechanical modelling of historical monuments built of blocks. The computational method, * Non Smooth Contact Dynamics (NSCD), is used to simulate masonry as a large collection of bodies under unilateral constraints and frictional contact. The computational method, NSCD, within an architectural and archeological model, MOMA, **Models and Opticals Meas...

The impact of poor cementing casing damage: A numerical simulation study

A good knowledge of the parameters causing casing damage is critically important due to vital role of casing during the life of a well. Cement sheath, which fills in the gap between the casing and wellbore wall, has a profound effect on the resistance of the casing against applied loads. Most of the empirical equations proposed to estimate the collapse resistance of casing ignore the effects of...
